Blog 7- Copying an exisiting video

In our media class we are also re-creating the music video 'Teenage dirtbag' by Wheatus. To do this there are three major things we have to think about. They are: Directing filming communication Directing is an important job, as the director will have to point out the exact positions the main actors/actresses or extras will have to stand, walk or dance. This can be tricky but to do this they look into the video camera and they decide from there, who looks best where. Filming is also another important thing, the filming should take no more then four shots. The director comes into this as he/she decides if the shot was good enough. If it isn't, they must write down the reasons why and try to improve. For example if one of the main actors/actresses laughs during a shot. They would have to refilm the shot, where the actor/actress will not laugh. Communication is also a very important part in this, this is important between the director and the actors. This is important as the director must tell the actors where to stand, when to move and what else they have to do at whatever point the director asks them too. Our media teacher Dan also told us how to handle the equipment safely. Some examples of these are You cannot carry the camera while walking around, unless you are filming. We were told to do this because if someone drops the camera, it will break or be in some way damaged. You cannot drag the tripod, you have to pick it up and place it in the area you want to film. You have to do this because dragging the tripod could damage it in some way for example it could bend the tripod stands, therefore the tripod wouldn't be able to be used again, which means that the student/students who break the tripod would have to pay a certain amount of money in order for the tripod to be replaced. We have shot the first sequences to the music video, in order to this quickly and successfully we were split into three groups. One group had to shoot one sequence and because the size of our class is to the maximum amount of students you can have in a class, two groups had to film the same scene and the group who shoots the best sequence will be used in the final edit of our music video. In the most recent media lesson with Dan, we have used final cut pro on mac. Final cut pro is an editing software, where we will edit our own music videos as well the 'teenage dirtbag' video. During the time using final cut pro, i was able to quickly learn how to use it, i was familar with final cut pro as i had used it previously.
While re-creating our music video. I had a go at directing and also filming some of it. When it came to filming the music video, I already had some knowledge of how to use the camera's required as I have previously used the recording cameras we used to film this music video. When it came to filming, me along with the rest of the group decided where it would be appropiate to film the music video, we looked at the weather and the shots that we had to film. Luckily when it rained, we were still able to film outside. What I learnt from filming is the more organisation of filming, an example of this would be when we re-checked the shots we have filmed and decided whether or not they were good enough to film. I think this is good experience for when I shoot my own music video, as I will carefully decide what shots do look good and what doesn't. When I come to shooting my music video, I will look for locations that won't limit camera angles, I think when it came to re-creating 'Teenage Dirtbag' it was very limited because the areas in whuch we filmed weren't as spacious. I like the idea of filming in the open area because I think that it could show freedom and me and my group can experiment with what type of shots we can use for shot types. I am really happy we had the oppurtunity to re-create a music video because I think that I have learnt a lot of techniques and knowledge for me to create a good music video. I also think I will be able to show my creativity more with my music video, as I have done that with re-creating this music video.
