Blog 7- Copying an exisiting video

In our media class we are also re-creating the music video 'Teenage dirtbag' by Wheatus. To do this there are three major things we have to think about. They are: Directing filming communication Directing is an important job, as the director will have to point out the exact positions the main actors/actresses or extras will have to stand, walk or dance. This can be tricky but to do this they look into the video camera and they decide from there, who looks best where. Filming is also another important thing, the filming should take no more then four shots. The director comes into this as he/she decides if the shot was good enough. If it isn't, they must write down the reasons why and try to improve. For example if one of the main actors/actresses laughs during a shot. They would have to refilm the shot, where the actor/actress will not laugh. Communication is also a very important part in this, this is important between the director and the actors. This is important as the director must tell the actors where to stand, when to move and what else they have to do at whatever point the director asks them too. Our media teacher Dan also told us how to handle the equipment safely. Some examples of these are You cannot carry the camera while walking around, unless you are filming. We were told to do this because if someone drops the camera, it will break or be in some way damaged. You cannot drag the tripod, you have to pick it up and place it in the area you want to film. You have to do this because dragging the tripod could damage it in some way for example it could bend the tripod stands, therefore the tripod wouldn't be able to be used again, which means that the student/students who break the tripod would have to pay a certain amount of money in order for the tripod to be replaced. We have shot the first sequences to the music video, in order to this quickly and successfully we were split into three groups. One group had to shoot one sequence and because the size of our class is to the maximum amount of students you can have in a class, two groups had to film the same scene and the group who shoots the best sequence will be used in the final edit of our music video. In the most recent media lesson with Dan, we have used final cut pro on mac. Final cut pro is an editing software, where we will edit our own music videos as well the 'teenage dirtbag' video. During the time using final cut pro, i was able to quickly learn how to use it, i was familar with final cut pro as i had used it previously.
While re-creating our music video. I had a go at directing and also filming some of it. When it came to filming the music video, I already had some knowledge of how to use the camera's required as I have previously used the recording cameras we used to film this music video. When it came to filming, me along with the rest of the group decided where it would be appropiate to film the music video, we looked at the weather and the shots that we had to film. Luckily when it rained, we were still able to film outside. What I learnt from filming is the more organisation of filming, an example of this would be when we re-checked the shots we have filmed and decided whether or not they were good enough to film. I think this is good experience for when I shoot my own music video, as I will carefully decide what shots do look good and what doesn't. When I come to shooting my music video, I will look for locations that won't limit camera angles, I think when it came to re-creating 'Teenage Dirtbag' it was very limited because the areas in whuch we filmed weren't as spacious. I like the idea of filming in the open area because I think that it could show freedom and me and my group can experiment with what type of shots we can use for shot types. I am really happy we had the oppurtunity to re-create a music video because I think that I have learnt a lot of techniques and knowledge for me to create a good music video. I also think I will be able to show my creativity more with my music video, as I have done that with re-creating this music video.

Video analysis

1st Music Video
Danity Kane- Damaged
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8IBg0mVJ5Y&feature=related
Aundrea Fimbres was in the girl group Danity Kane for four years before she became a solo artist. 'Damaged' is well known for being there most successful single of their career as a band. 'Damaged' is a dance-pop/R&B song. The genre is Dance-pop/R&B because it has a hard hitting bass which the majority of R&B songs have but it also has electro influences and is very fast paced which are the characterists of a dance-pop song. The girls are represented into three parts in this music video. One is where the five members are lying on a bed, which looks quite similar to a hospital bed this represents the heartbreak and they need someone to fix it, as hospitals are known for the treatment. They are also wearing and acting in quite a prevocative way which could represent Danity Kane showing the males what they are missing out on. The Narrative is the girls showing us their talents as singers and dancers in the majority of the song, they also show how attractive they are and their sex appeal in the other part of the song. This could represent how girls could want to be like them as they are talented singers/dancers and the sex appeal could be for the males as they are attractive. The target audience is for teenagers, you can see this as it is a very pop song, which is mainly targeted at teenagers. Majority of them being 13-18. They are also aiming this music video to girls, this could be mainly shown as the background colour is mainly pink, which is a very feminine colour. The video's meaning behind it, is to fight through any troubles, they can show this by their dancing. They perform a difficult dance routine which could show how they are fighting through the heart ache.

2nd Music Video:
Cheryl Cole- Promise This
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F1q0Vn4u4g&ob=av2n
Cheryl Cole is a very similar artist to Aundrea Fimbres, they are both pop R&B artists who also influence in Electro music. She is represented in two parts, one in a dark room, this could represent that Cheryl is gong through a dark period in her life or the fact that the song is quite a dark song. She is also represented in various outfits e.g. the Ballerina outfit infront of different backgrounds. The backgrounds are usually weather related such as winter and Autum. This could represent that Cheryl wants her man to be by her side all the time. The Narrative is Cheryl and her backing dancers, they show her in the dark room backed up against the wall. This could show that she feels scared/lonely as there is a fair distance between her and the males dancers in those clips. When she is in her ballerina outfit she is very intimate with the male dancer, this could show her longing to be close to someone. She is also in a long red dress where she isn't dancing but this is her main singing point, this is where she connects mostly with the audience. This could show Cheryl in a different light, as she could be asking her target audeince to pray for her. The main target audience for this music video are females 13-17 also males and females 18-24. This music video has been watched on youtube, the majority of UK citizens. This shows that Cheryl Cole's music appeals to both genders and is extremley popular in the UK. The meaning behind this music video is Cheryl is going through a dark period in her life, possibly her suffering from Malaria, this is shown with the dark colours. This video also means the same as the song, that she wants a friend/boyfriend to stay by her side, this is shown through her main back up dancer.
